Mono and pneumonia

Wed, September 22, 2010 8:39 PM

Well as the subject of this topic might suggest I was diagnosed as having mono and pneumonia this past week, and as you can imagine it feels just as bad as it sounds. I'm in college and so I'm missing a ridiculous amount of classes and I'm having a hard time getting air cause my lymph nodes are so swollen they are starting to cut off my airway. First, how long is it realistically gonna take me to feel better (I'm on Remicade for my Crohn's so my body is a little weaker) but I'm seriously wondering if I am gonna be able to pull it together to pass this semester or not, and its too late for me to drop classes without taking a zero.

p.s. you're probably feeling too awful to go into the disability office so call them and they will help you.

I'm so sorry you are so sick right now.  Everyone is different with how long mono takes to recover.  Go talk to the disability office.  You should be covered right now and not have to take a zero in your college classes.  The disability office will be able to help you.  They can fax a form to your IBD doc and get it all taken care of really quick to get you covered.

I had mono summer of my freshaman year in high school and I honestly healed pretty quickly. Aside from running a fever for 2 weeks straight I had as much energy as I did before having mono. My sister also had mono during high school but she was out for about a month to a month and a half and was so tired all the time. I think the normal out of commission rate with mono is about a month to 2 months but having a weaker immune system I would expect being out for 3 months
