Does any one know if I would have to disclose that I have Crohn's to the Dr that does the companies physical? Or were I might go to find that out.

Thanks

A couple years ago I went to a CCFA workshop in Minneapolis, MN and a lawyer (and Crohn's patient) there said that you do not need to, nor should you, disclose your disease until you are hired.  Once you're hired they can not fire you for having a disease or not not disclosing you have a disease.  For your own peace of mind, I suggest looking for a lawyer or a free law clinic that can answer this question for your circumstances personally.

T - I am a worrier by nature and was wondering if I gave you bad advice so I went digging on the internet.  Looks like, from this article anyway, that employers can ask you this info with an employment offer

They just have to administer the same requirements to everyone.

I hope you are doing well and that this information is helpful.

Well I would respectfully disagree but I appreciate your opinion.  Example:  if a job requires heavy repetitive lifting of 50 lbs and a person has a back injury and cannot perform the job, then it might not be a good fit.  Typically, employers have a physical or some sort of screening process like this to determine if they person can meet the requirements of the job.  That's what I'm referring to.  I'm quite sure the healthcare organization I work for does not practice discriminatory hiring practices.

Hope the job works out!

Hate to break it to you, but asking ANYBODY to disclose health information to an employer to make sure they can perform the job IS discrimination. It is nobody's business but your own when it comes to your health.

I agree that you need expert advice.  Especially if you are choosing NOT to disclose it.  I work for a hospital and we do ask for all conditions to be disclosed.  They are not used in a discriminatory way but to determine if the employee can physically perform the job AND if we need to make accommodates for them to be able to work.

But again, I would seek expert advice on what you do and do not have to disclose.

Best of luck with the potential new job!!

Greetings and Happy Holidays

Congratulations on getting a job in this tough economic environment but my first instinct is you need to talk to lawyer who is familier with employment law in your state and HIPAA and Americans with Disability Act. ASAP.

This is not a topic for amateurs

Best of luck
