Working out

Sat, December 25, 2010 1:00 AM

Hello,

so recently I think I've been on the verge of remission so I guess I thought it was time to lose my steroid weight get healthier ect. so i started working out and it was great...until it caused me so much pain I wanted to hurt myself!
My hips knees shoulders..well basically all my joints and half my muscles will hurt for days and its not sore it is just painful! I use to be an athelete so I know what sore from a good workout is and this is not even close to that it is just pain and an altered state of mind, I become extremely upset, depressed, self hating, and start yelling at my friends for no good reason...my doctors don't really know what it could be and they have said they know its not depression because I'm never like this except after workout, remicade infusions, or steroids. but it happened on steroids in extreme so I'm off those for life and with remicade it just lasts for the 2 or 3 days after my infusion SO STRANGE!
I don't know how other IBD people are able to work out if they go through the same kind of pain! how do I make it stop? at least let me know if you have dealt with this haha I hate feeling semi-crazy

I would suggest you get checked for any vitiam and mineral deficiency. With messed up systems we do not always absorb everything we should be. not to mention all the foods we can't eat.

I was diagnosed in December 2008 with UC and I workout everyday. I do have pain in both my knees. It only hurts me when I have to bend them like going up and down stairs. I do some knee excersises I learned a few years back and it helps.

I understand how you feel. I can hardly work out because when I do I am in so much pain for days after. The doctors cant help me.  If you find something that helps you please let me know. I am in pain so often that it makes me so upset.  Most people just dont understand. I actually have ulcerative colitis and the muscle and joint pain is awful.  Sorry  I can not be of any help to you but I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone.  Good luck:)

I have the same problem. Especially the sharp throbbing knee pain. My doctor told me that arthritis is common with crohn's patients. The only advice he gave me was to take tylenol when it gets bad. It does help a little. But just a little. I was pretty athletic growing up and still love to play sports whenever I can. Unfortunately that's not very often anymore. Very frustrating. I am really out of shape now and am in the process of finding a work out that works for me. I've found that low impact is a must. If I jog slowly without lifting my feet very far off the ground it limits the pain. I think swimming would be perfect but it's not really an option for me. I am thinking of trying yoga. I think they have programs designed for people with arthritis. Good luck to you.
