just wondering if any moms out there had complications during pregnancy and if your kids were born premature. Both my pregnancies were difficult and i was on prednisone during both, i also chose to have csections due to rectal fissures. both my kids were born premature at 6wks and 4wks early. my daughter weighed 5lbs 6oz and only needed minimal oxygen for 24 hours after birth. she was in NICU for 8 days. It was terribly hard to leave her. My son made it to 36 wks and weighed 7lbs 9oz and came home with me no problems except for jaundice of course. I breastfed them both while on prednisone also.my kids are now 5 and 3 and very healthy. i would love to have another child but when i realize the potential risks i think it's not such a good idea. Would love to hear your story!

I was on Imuran with my first, but now it seems to have more studies
that show not to be on it, I know it has been moved to a differnt class
of drugs... what do you think? I am afraid of staying on it this time!

I was high risk and treated by a perinatalogist throughout the pregnancy. I suffered from dehydration during the entire pregnancy. My daughter was born at 34 weeks, 5 days due to my preeclampsia- they had to induce and eventually do a c-section. She was just under 5 pounds and spent almost two weeks in the NICU. Only problem was she hadn't learn to suck and swallow on her own yet. She is thriving now at 4.5 months! Already up to the 25th percentile for her age on the normal growth chart.

I wasn't diagnosed until all 4 of my children were born. I had the first at 29 weeks gestation(c-section) and had trouble with the second and fourth pregnancies with pre-term labor. I felt completely well during the third pregnancy (probably in a cyclical remission) and had no problems with pre-term labor at all, but still needed a c-section again. I found that my IBD flared just after delivery with all the babies. I read on a gov't women's health web site that the incidence of prematurity is higher in moms with IBD. I hope your children are healthy and grow strong! Stay well and take care of yourself!

I have 2 girls and was on Remicade through both pregnancies. Both times I was lucky and had no complications and both girls were born heathly on their due dates. I have read before that for Crohn's sufferers who become pregnant:
1/3 get sick
1/3 get better
1/3 stay the same
Good luck!

Hello, I have 2 children. I was on predisone with both of them. My doctors treated me as a high risk also. My daughter was born 2 wks early at 5lbs 7oz. and my son was born 6 1/2 wks early at 3lbs 10oz. He spent two weeks in the NICU. He has eye complications and is having surgey the 15th to fix the problem other than that they are both very healthy. I went to the hospital twice with my daughter and six times with my son. Everything I ate either came right back up or went straight through and althogh i was on the predisone it did not do much I had taken it for so long. I completly understand your fears about having anymore children, I was scared I wasnt going to be here for mine. I have a great doctor and he definately knows his stuff he always knew what to do every time. I hope this gives you a little hope. Take care and thanks for sharing your story too.

I was on Imuran during my entire pregnancy. My daughter was born at 37 weeks. She was 6lbs 11 oz. They treated me as a high risk pregnancy the entire time. Towards the end they were doing weekly ultrasounds as well.
I am very happy with how everything turned out. But I think we are going to stick with one child. I am terrified after having the pregnancy that i had that a next one something bad would happen.
