Tired of being a toilet slave =(

Wed, January 12, 2011 3:52 PM

I've been suffering from colitis symptoms since 2001, but I was just officially diagnosed yesterday. This flare up is bad and I can't be too far from a toilet. I hate when I get this way.

I find out more when I have my appointment. I'm afraid of the medications. I hear they have ugly side effects.

I am just tired of the pain and the annoying diarrhea that comes with it. I hate that it adds to my already present social anxiety.

I'm at my wits' end!

You need to check out the Biffy Bag disposable travel toilet. It is not a cure but it can give you peace of mind knowing that a sanitary toilet is just seconds away in your pocket, glove box or purse. They work really well and you can toss them in any trash can when you are done. Check them out at www.biffybag.com . People need to hear about these Biffy Bags they are amazing. They would work great for the postman that replied earier. Good Luck

Now that you know you have this disease, you have to get it under control.  I'm a mailman and have had some close calls, being out on the street walking up and down steps, 10 minutes away from my mailtruck, not to mention driving to find a bathroom!  I found that limiting the size of my meals and cutting caffiene from my diet have made quite a difference in my bowel movements.  I also added fish oil and yogurt to my diet.  I haven't had a flare-up or needed prescription meds in over 7 months!  I only have a bowel movement once a day, sometimes every other, and I feel great!  Try different things to find out what works for you, and good luck!

I can certainly understand where you are coming from. I am sure that I have been dealing with colitis for years, but was just diagnosed in Nov. It’s frustrating when you have to plan trips around bathroom locations. And it can be a little bit embarrassing when you are in a restaurant and to need to push people out of the way, jump over tables and knock down waiters just to get to the restroom in time. Then you find out there is a line. Great!  I am not sure if it helps, but you’re not alone.  I find that having the support of my family and friends help and maintaining a sense of humor.  Hang in there, there are a lot of us out there going through the same things you are. And good luck!
