Need A Friend/Mutual Support-I have ulcerative colitis in Porter, TX

Sat, January 22, 2011 9:59 PM

Hello,

I would love to have a mutual support friend-I have ulcerative colitis. I was diagnosed at around 40 yrs. old-am now 55. I don't have family and no health insurance. I had a bad flare up last Oct.-hard to get under control. I ended up recently having to get a colonoscopy and cat scan (had to pay out of pocket). I recently went to the GI Dr.-put me on Prednisone & Asacol-I am having a rough time on this drug Prednisone. I am living in an area just north of Houston. They need a support group in this area, but found out recently there is none, only in central and southeast Houston. Like I say could really use a mutual friend right now cause this is a very hard illness to deal with. Thanks.

Are you on a Low Fiber/Low Residue Diet?  What does it consist of?  Have you had any trouble with your eyes?  Went for a eye test to get glasses and they said in ten years I will have to remove my cataracks.  I wonder if UC did that.

I understand completely..I have had colitis since I was 15 years old. I am now 42 My doctor has the nerve to say I am "lucky" because it is contained to a small area in my colon. I don't feel lucky when I am sitting on the toilet for hours in pain, or not able to leave the house to go to work or special occassions. It always flares up at the wrong time. Going out to dinner or drinks with my husband or friends, forget about that. I am usually in the bathroom the whole night and he gets mad because he doesn't understand. You will have lots of support on this site. I hope you feel better soon

Hello.  I can understand where you are coming from.  I have UC and have definitely had a hard time dealing with it.  I was diagnosed Jan 2010.  I was on Prednisone as well and had a rough time with it.  It took me about 6 months to undo all the problems prednisone brought along.  I'm also taking Asacol as well, but that doesn't seem to bother me.
