What is the strangest thing you changed or did for IBD?

Sun, January 23, 2011 12:36 AM

What is one of the strangest, weirdest, off the wall, people think you crazy, ect… thing you have done or changed because of your Crohns or Colitis?

For me it would have to be getting chickens.  I found that store bought eggs bothered my guts but my Aunt’s farm fresh eggs did not.  So I decided to get a small backyard flock.  4 chickens turned into 6 and now it is 12 beautiful egg laying hens.  They also help fertilize my garden and have become my pets that make me breakfast and possibly dinner if they start crowing.

So what is your crazy thing?

tallgrl30, oh yes the bathroom photographic memory.  I tlalent that most IBDers master quickly.  On some IBD weebsite I bumped into one night has a goggle map IBD bathroom finder.  I allowed people in input bathrooms and rate them.  I will have to try to find it again.

This is not good for me, every crazy thing that someone else mentioned I already do.  lol

This isn't something really that I've done...its more of a skill I've aquired that makes my friends laugh.

Within about a 1- 1 1/2 radius of where I live, I could tell people almost every bathroom on a particular route.  One day one of my friends mentioned going somewhere and I was like "Oh don't stop at these bathrooms, but this stop has the nicest" lol

Lca, sorry about the fox getting your chickens.  Since I have got my chickens I have to dispatch 8 raccoon and a opposum, everything just loves chicken.

Breezy, you can put me in your wacky list too.  I but my  grass fed beef, pork and chicken from organic local farmers too and drive 40 miles to pick up.  have a freezer that is full of beef, chicken, pork, duck, venison, rabbits and some squirrel.  I never have to buy any meat in the store, it just make my gut hurt.

When the fox broke into my hen house for the second time I gave up, chopped up the hen house and made a bonfire. It rapidly spread across a large gap to the nearest hedge and set it alight. When the firemen arrived with sirens on and blue lights flashing I was thoroughly embarassed but I did blame the fox rather than the uc!

I really miss the lovely fresh eggs. You are right, they are hard to beat.

I love it!  I did not think about fresh eggs.  Eggs tend to bother me, too.

I guess the wackiest thing I have done is to drive 30 miles to get my beef, butter, and poultry (I'll get eggs next trip!)every week.  I found out that I could eat all I wanted if the beef is grass fed, the butter pastured, and the chickens free range.  I found a farm that does things the old fashioned way.
