What do people take for serious joint pain?

What do people take for serious joint pain? Tylenol with codeine makes me sick.

Hi Alan. I am interested in your coctail. If I did this, would there be no need to take Asacol HD? Of course, I would need doctor involvement... But I just HATE meds.

Make sure to review the fine print of all your meds for side affects that can cause joint pain... it may be directly related to a specific medicine. Azathioprine causes pain in my hands and feet that can be very debilitiating. Make sure to discuss it with your providers..... there may be suggestions, or even a need for them to be educated about the reality of taking the medications for long periods. I found reflexology and accupuncture to be very helpful and working with my body at the right levels.... sometimes massage was just too much or not enough - and often caused reactionary symptoms. Doesn't hurt to take a fresh look!

Hi all you out there with joint pain. I am 58 and have severe osteo arthritis. Along with UC, my life can be so difficult. I am told that nsaids are not good to take if you have UC, so I try to stay away from them. Tylenol is my only help. My Gastro doctor tells me it is ok to take nsaids if I am not having a flare, but seriously, I think nsaids, and stress are what triggered the disease to begin with. So, I do rely a lot on the over the counter pain patches that you put right on the pain sight, and you can get them at the dollar store. If I am going to take an nsaid, the one that worked best for me is: Meloxicam. I hope I have helped a little bit. Barbara

Though I do take Ibuprofen sometimes, but I prefer natural remedies like glucosomine or pycnogenol (an extract from pine bark) fewer side effects. Check it out...Not sure it will work for you. But, I'm 60 and have suffered a lot from knee pain till now.

After taking every oppiate, NSAID & immuno-suppressant I have found Tramodol to be my best help. Note: IF your doctor approves it, start slowly & never stop without a taper. It doesn't cause bleeding so no need to stop it for a colonoscopy, etc. I also LOVE Flector patches. They are pain patches that adhere to the skin and help me to be able to walk without assistance. Love those things!

Most people with colitis, I am told, can take regular Tylenol. I had to take Vicodin for a tooth problem and it worked well if I took it with food. But Vicodin makes you tired and can be addictive so don't take it all the time.
