health insurance issues

Wed, July 13, 2011 1:11 PM

left NC and my job & insurance in April. Now it's July and I cannot get a insurance company to cover me due to crohn's. dxed in 2001, stable, however did have small bowel resection in Feb this year due to bowel obstruction. I don't qualify for disability and make too much money for GA medicaid programs...anyone that can advise me, please do so....

I'm familiar with the 6 month waiting period. It frustrated me, too. Here in Utah, there is a HIP and a HIPfed. The 2nd one is a temporary insurance meant to cover you until you DO qualify for the 1st one. Look into it. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Unfortunately crohns and colitis are an automatic denial with health companies. Unless you have colitis and have a colectomy. In that case you could get a policy five years after surgery if you have had no complications. I am an agent and in the same situation. If you cannot get on another group plan your only option is the GA Indemnity plan with you can get info on thru the Georgia department of insurance. This plan will cover you but you are totally out of pocket and are responsible for all expenses leading up to the deductible limit of 2,000 or 2,500. At that point the plan pays 70%.
