Anyone else Vegan/Vegetarian

I am a vegan with Chron's and I was wondering if anyone felt anything was particularly good to eat or something that should be steared clear of?

Being a vegetarian or vegan with Crohn's or UC sounds like such a bad idea. Think of all the extra gas and fiber you'll be dealing with. All I eat now is pasta with a little bit of marinara with my pasta, v-8 fusion juice and bananas for fruits and veggies. Grilled chicken and cheeses are good for me too. Any funky vegetable or grain is guaranteed to cause all my symptoms to flare up.

I'm neither a vegan nor a vegetarian, but I LOVE (or used to love) vegetables across the board (beans included).  This UC has modified that whole thing, unfortunately, since I'm more or less on a low fiber diet, too.  I'm now also lactose intolerant - apparently - so I've switched to fortified soy milk (Silk brand).  Once you get used to it, it's not too bad.

I'm worried about iron deficiency, too, but hard core iron supplements cause me major constipation.  I get mine with multivitamins with iron and red meats, mostly, but I'm going to try some of the ideas here (though I don't have much cause to use sweeteners ... thankfully, I don't have a sweet tooth, but I enjoy my salty snacks a lot).

wow blessed thanks for the tip on rapadura sugar, i had never heard of it.  I will look for this at my health food store.  I have been using agave nectar as my sugar substitute and honey substitute. 

I am a tad anemic so I wouldn't mind extra iron, I do eat a good amount of beans though so that is always helpful.

Hi,

I eat vegan and have ulcerative colitis.  I enjoy modifying (when necessary) the recipes I have found on the website helpforibs.com .  Very tasty and safe for the GI track.  I also recently found Rapadura sugar which has 11% of your iron need in 1 teaspoon.   I struggle with chronic anemia so~ at times I do add some meats (rarely anything red though) into my diet when my iron level or my energy drop too low. Gritz is another of my high iron sources mixed with some fruits and black strap molasses as well as the rapadura sugar.  I worried that the extra sugars might flare my joint pain but I'm happy to report that it does not.

i was before the *** hit the fan during my first flare earlier this year.  i was a vegetarian for three years and gave it up because i am unable to eat beans, a lot of veggies or fruit (basically, a low fibre diet).
