Group Trips and Few Bathrooms

Fri, January 27, 2012 5:07 PM

I recently went on a ski trip with my bible study to stay at a house with 11 people and two bathrooms.  Needless to say, the thought of sharing two restrooms was not pleasant.  I was not currently on a flair, but I think the anxiety of not trully being able to relax once in the bathroom because people may be waiting got to me.  Those who have UC and Chrons know we need to be in there a while.  I am starting to see a few symptoms now, but increased my meds per the GI.  Everything was going great until I had to go out of town.

I remember even before I had UC, traveling always messed up my routine no matter what.  Anyone else experience symptoms because of traveling?  Any helpful tips?

I always have this anxiety, which always makes me use the bathroom more often. The key is to keep your mind occupied on other tasks. You won't stress yourself over it and you wont have to use the bathroom as much. However, if you feel like this is going to be a problem for you regardless, don't worry about the time you spend in there. Seriously, most people will only be in the bathroom a few times a day for much shorter periods than us, so most of the time the bathroom will be available for you. If you feel the urge coming on, keep an eye on the bathroom and make sure you get to it in time...also carry some "just one drop" odor drops..it'll eliminate your odor and save you some embarrassment (although in my experience, most adults don't really care about someone doing their business, it's natural!) Just make sure you can make it to the bathroom, don't worry about anything else and always enjoy your time off because with IBDs, we don't really get alot of that!
