Allergies....

Fri, April 20, 2012 6:42 AM

I think I'm flaring because of my seasonal allergies....Is this possible? Don't tell me to ask my doctor, because my doctor is not being much help at all, He says that everything is normal (1)even when I'm using the bathroom 7-8 times a day.....with diarrhea...2) still having horrible stomach cramps, etc...as long as my fevers don't last more than 48 hours I'm ok....same ol' same ol'....) He tells me to relax and stop worrying....that worries me....I am taking Xanax for my anxiety, (prescribed from a neurologist) and that IS helping....But the main jist of this post is the question: are my allergies causing a flare? I've ruled everything else out, and I remember reading about it somewhere....

(Just about the only good news for me lately: for those of you who have been watching me....THE DRESS FITS!!!!!!!!!cheeky)

I have wicked bad seasonal allergies also, year round, and though I don't see a tremendous flux in flaring, I do think the two are connected.  Histamine and inflammation response in the nose or the bowels is still a histamine response.  I take anti-histamine/allergy meds daily and sometimes I double and triple with pharmacists and doctors giving me funny looks when i tell them i take Zyrtec 24/7/365, Claritin added in the fall and spring for the bad times, fluconisole (sp?) nasal spry and benedryl when it gets too bad to handle.  I also get some awful sore in my nose for all the running and blowing, i feel your pain.  The one thing I that I found to help flare related is that I stopped eating high % milk products and drinking lactose full milk.  I seem to have a intolerance and dairy seems to make my allergies worse.  It comes down to the whole tolerance issue, if your body is barely tolerating what it is going through right now, it defiantly is not going to tolerate more.

P.S. get a new doc, i had one that told me the same things, anxiety, hypocondriac ect, then I got a doctor who knew what Crohns even was and I received COMPETENT treatment.  I was also dx with generalized anxiety disorder  and am being treated for it which HAS helped the Crohns symptoms, but they are not the cause.

I wish you the best of luck and congrats on fitting the dress!!!

I could buy that whenever your body is weakened, it has more trouble with digestion. I've certainly noticed that things like colds and fevers go hand in hand with my own flare-ups. Does anyone have any links to research? I'll do a search myself, too....

Hey Amerz....love that dress!  I missed your earlier posts...when is the date?  If it is not happening yet...I want to recommend something....if you are wearing hosiery on your big day, get a good pair of thigh highs instead of panty hose.  It made trips to the bathroom less of a concern when "dragging" along the wedding gown.  I could have worn knee his even - we did not do the garter thing.  Wish I went bare legged with peds!

As for the allergy thing...I see it both ways.  My allergies get worse if my CD is acting up and I notice my CD if my allergies are acting up.  They say this year is particularly bad for allergies so I would not be surprised if it was kicking up some auto immune issues for you.  Not sure if your allergies are mostly sinus related.  I found an over the counter med to work best for mine - try Nasalcrom.  It is a spray so it won't bother your gut (most allergy meds bother my guts - the 24 hour ones were really nasty).  I can even be a round cats if I use it and they are horrible to me.  I use it 10-15 minutes before I go out the door and then occasionaly throughout the day.

I just visited my GI for a scheduled check-up and because I'm having some issues.  I'm newly diagnosed and was worrying that the medicine I'm on isn't working correctly.  He told me that a lot of his patients have problems this time of year.  He said that there isn't any documentation to support this, but he thinks it is because of allergies.  He explained that once your immune system starts working (in response to the pollen, etc), it doesn't "shut off" properly and then you have a flare.  Makes sense to me, but I'm new to this game.

Good luck!

I notice my flares get worse whenever my body is at a weakened state reacting to something. I don't see why this isn't possible since having an IBD can have serious affect on your immune system. I've noticed that it takes me longer to get over an illness and I get affected 10 times harder than anyone else, even the occasional allergies. Are you taking anything for them?

On another note I LOVE when doctors say everything is fine when you know that it's not, I'm so sorry you have to deal with that.
