Phoenix Belt and horizonal ostomy bag

Tue, February 26, 2013 11:51 AM

Does anyone else on the forum use the Phoenix belt where the ostomy bag is fitted in the horizontal position?

My son loves the discreetness of the belt to hide the bag and keep it snug, especially now that he is going back to school.  But he is having difficulty draining it due to the position.  He is currently folding it over to the downward position to drain.  It is more difficult to do when the stool is thick.

He is trying drinking grape juice and eliminating the probiotic capsule to thin out the stool for easier draining.

If anyone has ideas or tips they can share regarding their experience, it would be greatly appreciated.  He is 16 and going back to school with a bag is a little disconcerting if everything isn't goping smoothly.

TIA,

Cheri
