Losing a pet and IBD

Mon, May 26, 2014 9:27 PM

Hi everyone! I lost my dog a few weeks ago after his second battle of cancer.  He was my best friend and was there for me when I got diagnosed with UC three years ago.  I've been struggling emotionally with his loss and in turn my UC flared up right around time his cancer came rolling back and it is still flared up.

Any tips to calm down a flare-up when I am still sad and missing my dog?  Each day the pain lessens, but my stomach pain has been something else!

Thanks for your help!

I understand what you are going through completely.  Our pets are many times the one and only thing we can count on getting unconditional love from.  When having a bad day and everything seems to be hitting the fan, we go home to a wagging tail and immediately feel a surge of energy yet at the same time the feeling of relief.

My recommendation is go to your local shelter and rescue a pet.  We currently have 3 rescues and they make our house a home.

Good luck to you and may your past pet rest in peace.
