Feeling alone...

Tue, February 24, 2015 3:39 PM

I recently had a very bad and ongoing crohn's flare that's being treated very urgently and may possibly result in surgery and I am very scared, but no one seems to care. My mother never goes with me to the ER or doctor's appointments. I've gotten stuck in the ER at least 3 times in the past two months because my mom (who is the only person I currently have that can do this stuff) refused to drive me there and forced me to drive there myself even when I was crying in pain.

One of those times she even yelled at me for "putting her in the position" of having to pick me up while she was sick (she has a cold).

Today she kept going on and on about me not going to the grocery store (which is one of the most stressful things for me due to social anxiety) and how we don't have any food, for me or for her, yadda, yadda, and when I told her "Mom, I'm on a bunch of narcotics and I'm sick too!" she just exploded. I lost my temper on her after that and said some very mean and hurtful things that I regret, but I just don't know what to do.

Everytime I get sick she acts like she does everything for me and makes me out to be ungrateful and lazy and makes me feel guilty for having my illness. I don't know what to do, as this is my only living option if I want to be able to afford my medical care.

Maybe you can talk to your GI or Primary Care Doctor to see if your medical complex can help you with transportation.  Having emotional support is very important, but it doesn't sound like there is anything you can do or say to make your mom sympathize with your suffering.  I am very sorry and pray for you.

I am so sorry to hear this.  Your Mom obviously does not understand the severity of your illness and is having some internal struggles of her own.  That is no reflection on you or your self worth so if at all possible do not internalize it.  Just do the best you can to take care of you and your physical, mental, and emotional well being.
