I have a boyfriend with colitis... we've been together for one year. I would like to know what I can do to support him, I don't really know how I can help. He is not depressed or anything, but I know it's difficult for him sometimes... I also would like to know what I should never do! Thanks you very much!!!!

Coming from a newly diagnosed female... the best thing you can do is BE THERE for your partner. Sometimes we need our partner to caudal/baby us. To listen to us complain. To tell us things we want to hear (one thing I do not like to hear personally is: BE STRONG; because.. what does that even mean? One can only be "strong"/put on a front for so long).

Be a support to your partner and do not ever make them feel like they are a burden to you. Remember, we did not choose for this to happen.

Hi,
My boyfriend has Crohn's disease. He has been going through a really rough patch with his disease lately, not just the usual flares ups and such. Also, he has been unable to hold down a job or get health insurance which leaves him jumping from hospital to hospital when he needs care. He's getting depressed and the emotional stress is taking an even bigger toll on his body. The past two weeks he has been hugging the toilet bowl and before that he was quarantined in the hospital because his immune system was dangerously low. I will be calling some foundations tomorrow to see if I can get him some assistance with his ostomy bags and other things. I don;' know how to help and I really want to. Any suggestions? I can't see him in this much pain anymore.

Thanks

I'm new to the forum and found hare's reply cold and heartless - totally unhelpful.  Keep posting and if need be, pm and admin to help get answers to your question.  I don't know your age or circumstance with your BF and that could make a difference in the answer.  Good luck and good on you for wanting to be supportive of your BF.
