question about xanax

Fri, October 02, 2009 12:00 AM

Has anyone ever had worse stomach issues while taking xanax?   I took it tonight to help me sleep.  I have crohns and ulcerative colitis.  I had a really bad month - flare ups, etc., had a colonoscopy and waiting for results.  The past two nights I'm waking up at 2am and not been able to fall back to sleep.  I just hope it doesn't upset my stomach.  Anyone with a story to share is greatly appeciated.  I'm really nervous about it upsetting my stomach more than anything!  thanks, ngc

Stomach upset is one of the listed side effects of Xanax, so you may want to ask your doc about an alternative like Ativan or Valium.  Some people tolerate meds differently than others.  I've been on Xanax for the last several months now b/c I read on this website that it's been being perscribed more for Crohn's and Colitis patients, and I'm so glad I asked my dr. about it!  I also take it at night and it helps SO much....don't know what I'd do with out it.

I'm not sure about xanax but I do take clonazepam. I was recently diagnosed with Chrohn's and UC as well and I find that it actually helps a lot at night. So far it hasn't upset my stomach any worse, and I know how you feel cause it is rather hard to sleep at night bc of the conditions. I hope that it will help you. They say that stress can trigger the flair ups so I would think that a nerve pill would cut down on your stress, however I am not a dr.
