So I was scheduled to have a lovely colonoscopy this morning but it had to be cancelled because the half lightly I had to drink only made me vomit and didn't clean me out correctly. Even if I drank it really slow and took long breaks in between it didn't work so they had to cancell this. Of course I wake up this a.m. and now can't stop going to the bathroom. I've had colonoscopy's plenty of times before and this has never happened. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'm so mad that I had to drink all that nasty stuff for nothing. I'm just really frustrated and tired of not feeling well, getting blood work done every other week, and I feel like no one that I know understands. Ugh, just need some positive words from ppl. I think.

What a pain in the butt! (pun intended)  I know your frustration.  I don't mind the taste of the liquid preps, but the last time I had a colonoscopy (last June), I vomited.  It wasn't due to the taste or the prep but a blockage.  I couldn't finish the prep, but had been using magnesium supplement for about 10 days before, so I was cleaned out enough to do the procedure.  I saw what caused the blockage during the procedure -- Crohn's inflammed area of my ileum.

So I think it's important to make certain of the cause of your vomiting.  Then you and your doc can discuss alternative preps.

I hear ya! The prep for the colonoscopy and for the intestinal cat scan is worse than the procedure!! Talk to your doc about what to do--they should have a solution because I bet this happens a lot! I almost threw up in the hospital one week after my colectomy when they made me drink the cat scan stuff. Instead I coughed up some phlegm from the anesthesia (yuk and OWWW-- my incision!). It also gets in the way when you're trying to eat to gain weight and the doc says "gain weight or you might die, oh yeah but drink this stuff that makes you not want to eat for three days".

I have never actually thrown up from the colonoscopy prep drink, but I definitely have felt like I was going to! I never liked Gatorade, and it tastes just like it, but thicker and goopier. But I think I would rather drink that than the barium shakes for the xrays. Those were even worse!

That Go Lytely is some nasty crap. I have had Crohns for about 18 years.  The last two Colonoscopys that I have had I took 2 dulcolax tablets, waited for about a hour and half and then I drank over a period of time (4 hours about) 64 oz of gatorade that had miralax dissolved in it and then right around midnight I took two more dulcolax.  Both times my doctor said I was really cleaned out and the good part is that I didn't drink any of the Golytely.  Ask your doctor about this prep. Hang in there I have had to reschedule a few because I wasn't cleaned out enough from the Golytely.

I understand your frustration.  At times it just seems as if all can go wrong.  We have to understand that with this condition we are going to have good days and bad days and maybe this is just one of the bad days.

So sorry that you had to go through that! I tried pills my first time, and it really ripped up my insides. The liquid makes me retch, but I did schedule an afternoon colonoscopy, and was able to split the amount of liquid. I think it is horrible stuff and near impossible to drink unless you LIKE Gatorade (which I loathe!).

My daughter has UC diagosed at 16.  Her first colonoscopy she drank Gatorade, chicken brother the day before with Miralax.  She had instructions from her GI.  Even though it was though, she had most of the day to drink it.  The second colonoscopy she had she had to drink Movie Prep.  She thought she was going to through up because she had to drink so much in an hour, wait an hour, and do it again for an hour.  It was tough.  She said even though she never wants to drink Gatorade again, she rather have the first prep with the Miralax than then Movie Prep.  I feel bad you have to go through everything all over again.  Ask if there's an easier prep.  My daughter had a choice of pills or Movie Prep.  She said she wished she had the pills instead or the Miralax.  Good luck.

A similar thing happened to me. I used to drink a powdered Gatorade (Frost flavor) and Miralax that was an "ok" prep. The last time I was in the hospital they gave me that horrible Go lyty stuff- pineapple. I vomited almost all of it.
