Arthritis supplement Glucosimine/Chondroitin

Sun, April 17, 2011 9:40 AM

I have colitis and am starting to get arthritis in my hips. (can feel bone rubbing on bone sometimes) Many friends, nurses, and doctors swear by glucosimine/chondroitin (not sure about spelling).  My question: has anyone taken it, and did it affect your intestines or stomach?  I took it years ago for some arthritis in my hands and it REALLY HELPS but I did not have colitis then.   Anyone have good experience with this supplement.  I am afraid it will cause a flair.

Joint pain can be a common side affect of many of the treatments for IBD.  go back over the fine print of all the meds that you take regularly, and as needed.  Azathioprine <Imuran>  causes joint pain for me, and it was not helped by fish oil / glucosamine/ condriotin.  But when I was off the medication for 6 weeks - no pain in hands/feet/ knees.  Keep all your options open, and make sure to discuss ALL symptoms with your providers.
