Feelings of Guilt

Wed, February 15, 2012 3:22 PM

Hey, I've just been diagnosed with Colitis in the very beginning of the year, after suffering on and off since I was 9 or 10 (20 now). I've been trying to do things to help myself feel better: change my diet, take my meds when I'm supposed to, stay hydrated, etc... Lately I've been feeling sooooo guilty about being to "sick" to work (even though I don't really have an official job, it's just when they need me), also about my family and soon to be in-laws having to deal with my dietary needs. With the added stress of wedding planning and being a full-time college student this is NOT what I need. I've been getting really depressed and after gaining a couple pounds back, I'm starting to lose my appetite again....I've struggled since October to stay the same size as my wedding dress (engorging myself and making the problem worse).
I need support and I'm at the end of my rope, it's a lot to take in and I have a lot of stress. Anxiety is building up and I've had two panic attacks THIS week, (and it's only wednesday!) Help please?

I agree with Lizzies mom, don't worry about the dress thing. I was hospitalized a month before my wedding and gained 20lbs!! I had my seamstress let out the back of my dress and basically remake it...if you lose weight, it may be even easier, but either way, the dress can be fixed and I promise when it's all going on and all over, all that will matter are you and your husband! Trust me! That was me in December! I know where you're coming from. And find ways to destress yourself: massages, yoga, meditation, hot baths..they will not only help you mentally, but they'll help with abdominal pain too

Wedding planning is one of the most stressful times in your life, it ranks up there with renovating a handyman special on a budget.   Stress is noted to be one of the worst things for guts.

Don't worry so much on maintaining the weight, find a great seamstress.   You'd be amazed the miracles they can work.

Try focusing on de-stressing.   What hobbies do you enjoy, whether reading, or yoga, or even a simple walk in the park w/your pet.   Be extra kind to your gut, watch your diet, take meds, etc.

Let us know how things are going.   It will work out in the end.   There is a light at the end of the tunnel and a very lucky man waiting to spend the rest of his life with you!    Best wishes.
