Asacol and Depression?

Mon, July 23, 2012 3:25 PM

Hello all!

I am wondering if anyone has experienced tiredness and depression while on the medication Asacol.

I was just diagnosed 3 weeks ago with UC, and begin meds 3 times a day.  I noticed my stomach was getting better, but I was getting more and more tired and now for the past 3 days have been pretty depressed.  I don't want to get up of the couch and just am not happy.

I have had depression in the past, but overcame it.   I am wondering if the medication is now setting it off.

Anyone have similar experiences or heard anything of the sort?

Hello. There are times when I do feel sad/alone (I am not sure if depressed is the right word or not...). Anyway, I think just having Ulcerative Colitis may cause you to feel depressed and/or brought back your depression. I took Asacol for a few months (just recently switched to another medication) and never felt depressed while on the medication. If you are worried about it, talk with your Gastro doctor. Hope this helps!
