Upcoming Surgery

I had my 2nd resection surgery on my ileum on 4/1/2013. I ended up in the hospital for about 10 days prior to surgery and then another 10-11 days post-surgery. I was in the hospital for 8 days after my first resection surgery on my ileum in 2011. Unfortunately, surgery is a necessary evil with CD. I wouldn't put off surgery if your doctor is recommending. I was pushing my doctor to do something about my on-going Crohn's issues and he wanted to wait. That worked until mid-March when my intestines became so inflamed and damaged that I couldn't keep anything down and was admitted to the hospital.
The day of surgery and the next day are probably the hardest and most painful. I'm not big on pain killers but the morphine pump was my best friend for a couple days. By the time you leave the hospital, you will be up and moving around good on your own. Just slow and you will tire out REALLY easily. Then you probably have another 4-6 weeks of recovery at home. You need to build up strength and gain weight. I tried to do one task a day, lots of short walks and naps. You will be put on a low residue diet for a while to try and keep digestion as easy on your system as possible. Good luck and stay positive! I brought my own shampoo, soap, lotion, books and some comfortable clothes to the hospital to wear under my gown (PJ pants and tank tops).

I too just found out I need surgery. I had my CT and colonoscopy already and meet with my doc on 10/10. He said he wasn't able to get into my small bowel at all so I won't know how much he wants to remove till I see him. I'm scared because I hate being put under. I have only had a fissure repair (outpatient surgery) but I don't heal well so I am afraid the pieces will fall apart or that I will get an infection. I will keep you all in my thoughts, please do the same for me.

ty tracy im scared to death 1st time anything real bad has happen to me since my moms been gone so thats making it even harder on my i was a mamas girl :)

I feel for you I just found out last week Im going in for surgery aug 15th for 90% colon removed Im am scared to death I will be praying for you and hope you remember me ....

Thank you. I am Having the surgery august 9th. it will be An open surgery. I am a Bit nervous they will be taking a little less than 12 inches. i am trying to figure out what to take with me My phone and tablet for sure. Thinking oF sun dress or something for day home do not think i will want anything around my waist with stitches or staples from my belly button doWn.
