possible surgery

Wed, May 07, 2014 6:42 AM

I have been fighting UC for 18 years. The past 6 years, I have had a horrible flare but my doc is still hesitant on doing the surgery b/c it's not my entire intestine. He put me on "the last med to try" and I had a bad reaction to it. How have you who have had surgery done after surgery? How has it impacted your lives? I am a mom of 3 and tired of being sick and tired. Thank you for your help.

I am 5 weeks post-op with a permanent ileostomy.  I had terrible UC and none of the meds helped for me either.  I also have many other complications so doing the j-pouch and reversal wasn't an option for me.  I am still getting used to the ileostomy but I am doing so much better.  It is nice to go places and not worry about a bathroom.  Dealing with the ileostomy is a life changer but my life has been better now that I'm getting recovered from the surgery.
