Joint inflammation after ileostomy takedown surgery

Sun, January 25, 2015 1:24 PM

I just had my final surgery - the ileostomy takedown. I'm 2 weeks post surgery and experiencing joint pain and inflammation all over my body, but especially in my hands and upper shoulders. I'm concerned that I might be experiencing some other autoimmune reaction post surgery, as I had to have an ileostomy due to ulcerative colitis diagnosis in 2010. For this final surgery, I have had a tough recovery. 10 days in the hospital with a NG tube and PICC line. Anyone ever experience this type of inflammation post surgery?

Just joined the forum and saw the thread. I am 15 years post IPAA and now coming to the understanding that UC is a systemic disease and that the surgery does not preclude the development of extraintestinal symptoms (in my case iritis). I don't know if this possibly fits with what you are experiencing, but it is something to bring up with your doctor. Also, I have been reading that UC has a strong comorbidity with RA. Hopefully this has already resolved for you, but if not I hope this helps.
