Colostomy Reversal

Sun, March 20, 2016 6:05 PM

First a little background. I've had the colostomy since July of 2014 as the result of a perianal fistula. Didn't know I had Crohn's until a skin graft surgery last April and the biopsy was suggestive of Crohn's. In June I got my official diagnosis of Crohn's. At the end of June I had my first treatment, Entyvio. It goes way more in depth than that, but I'll leave it at that.

Last Tuesday my doc did a colonoscopy and told me that my Crohn's was in remission! So now, once this fistula is finally healed, we can reverse my colostomy. But to be honest, I don't want to. Not only do I feel like I have no use of my sphincter muscles (which started happening before my colostomy), but I really don't want to turn around in 6 months and have to start this process all over again. Or even a year from now.

So my question is has anyone else elected to keep their colostomy? If so, why did you decide to keep it, even though you could've had it reversed?
