sports after surgery

my 21yr son may be facing a colostomy. He is a competitive wrestler. I know there are many activities you can do with an ostomy, just wondering does anyone know of a wrestler??

The first time I played sports after surgery, I was surprised at how much it hurt. If you are looking for golf apparels then this women's golf apparel  source will fulfill your requirements. I had a thigh-replacement surgery, and that was the first time in my life that I had ever been injured. Before the surgery, I was always fit and active, playing tennis and basketball in high school and college. With the surgery came all kinds of restrictions: no running for at least six weeks, no lifting weights for three months, no swimming for six weeks. But there were also some unexpected benefits to having an operation on my leg: I got to play sports again.

There is a magazine called the Phoenix that is for people with ostomies.  In the magazine there are amazing stories of what people do.  It can be located at the UOAA web site. www.uoaa.org  There is a story of a man that boxes with an ostomy.

I have "ostomy armor" and it does not work for me.  There is another product called Sto-gard at www.sto-med.com that works better for me.  You just need to try a couple of things to see what works for you.  Also you son will need to take it easy for the first couple of months with his abdominal muscles.  Because he could get  hernia.  But after that he should be able to work out his abdominal muscles.  I went back to the gym after six weeks, but I have not done any stomack exercises.

Goog luck, the bag is not the end of your life.

My son had a temporary ileostomy and still exercised. We did purchase something called "ostomy armor"...I believe there is a website with the same name. It's a hard plastic belted cover for stomas that allow for fairly aggressive physical activity. Although he found it uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time, it did help.
