Surprise Cancer; Best Treatment?

Wed, March 26, 2008 9:24 AM

This is about finding a stage 3 (T1N1) cancer by accident.  My routine colonoscopy found a large villeous adenoma that needed surgery to remove.  The villeous type are at very high risk of becoming cancerous but this one was benign, at least for the present.  It was located at the top of the acending colon near the hepatic flexure.  The tissue between the adenoma and the ileum was damaged by years of inflamation from Crohns disease.  The surgeon and I agreed that we might as well remove the damaged tissue while we were at it since it was at risk of not healing properly after the resection.  I had a right hemicolectomy that included about 2 inches of the ileum  As it turned out, there was a adenocarcinoma in the cecal valve (between the large and small intestine) but it was completly disguised by a layer of scar tissue.  Although a biopsy of the cecal valve was done during the colonoscopy, it only revealed the scar tissue.  (My gastroenterologist breathed a sigh of relief that the cancer was found and has changed his method for Crohns patients.  He is using punch biopsies on scar tissue now.)  For me, the cancer was found by pure luck and hopefully will be cured at the stage three level.  My question is whether anyone out there knows which adjuvant chemotherapy is best for Crohns patients.  I am presently undergoing FOLFOX4 treatment but can find little on the Internet about which treatment is best where Crohns is involved.

We’ve all heard the age-old question: How much is a good laptop? It’s a question that many of us have faced at one time or another, and it’s not always an easy one to answer. There are so many factors that go into choosing the perfect laptop for your needs, and it can be difficult to determine which one is the best for you. Nicholas
