What do you wish you had asked ahead of time?

I'm going to talk to my doctor next Monday about surgery and I have a lot of questions.  For those who have had surgery, I wondered what you wish you would have asked, but didn't, before having a colectomy (sp?) surgery?

I would ask the surgeon's personal rate of complications with that operation.  How confident is the surgeon that the surgery will work for you individually?  If there are complications, how will that affect your recovery, return to work, etc?  Is the doctor board certified, how long has he/she been doing surgery?  How will your life be different after the surgery?

That's what comes to my mind, and things I wish I'd have asked before.
