I have severe UC and my GI is really pushing surgery. I just can't believe surgery is going to solve all of my problems. Remicade/Solumedral treatments every 6 weeks and Prednisone for my Joint Pain is how I've been handling my problem. I've had no issues with bloody diarreah since March but the joint pain is horrible. I actually get to the point where I develop welts on the bottoms of my feet that feel like I'm walking barefoot on rocks and my hands, elbows, wrists and knees become so soar that I often can't walk from my bedroom to the bathroom, nonetheless trying to get into my car to drive. If I knew that the surgery would resolve my joint problems permanently I might be more inclined to consider it but my Doctors can't be sure. Anyone else out there who can share their story if similar to mine? Did you have severe joint pains and surgery that cured your problems. Or, did you have surgery but the joint pain continues? I'd love to hear from you.

I've been on all the drugs and have had the surgery. I suffered from joint pain and I wish I can say that the surgery completely alleviated it. I still have bouts of it, but it is not particulary overwhelming and it goes away with a little movement. The problem is that I cannot say 100% if the pain was related to the UC. I have difficulty getting straight answers from the doctor on the joint pain, but it is supposed to go away with the surgery. One other point. The surgeries, first the removal of the colon and then the reversal of the ostemy, vastly improved my quality of life. It has only been about a month, but I finally can live life again. That alone is worth it.
