Mon, April 28, 2008 9:44 PM

I had a right hemi-colectomy and got it done last year. I have severe pain on my left side and feel like I am going through flare ups real bad, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2003 and 2007 got my surgery, they wanted to do a complete ostomy....  Does anyone have any suggestions or advice they could give me.....Thanks.

hi, i was diagnosed with collitis back in 1997 and had my large intestine removed in jan of 2006. It wasnt an easy recovery  but i have never regreted my decision. It came to the point there was know alternative. i am fortunate not to have an iliostemy bag i have an internal jpouch and i can prodly say my small intestines have taken over and are doing the job of both. My doctors would like to see me eat with no restrictions and i am slowly adding more foods in my diet but it is still difficult to eat most veggies. Gas is a huge and painful issue  but with use of otc meds and a few other suggestions made by my Chiropractor (ie: coffee, avoid shell fish and monthly adjustments as well as massage therepy) i can manage it. I dont know if this is helpful to you. please feel free to email me if you have other ?
