I will be having a colostomy and was wondering about formed stools and how that works with wearing tight jeans? If you have your bag tucked into your jeans will that be a problem if i have formed stools? I can just imagine the stool not being able to move past my waistband and then having some sort of explosion lol!
Any advice would be great!

I'm sorry, I had forgotton that you are going to be getting your colostomy, I was writing as if you already have one. At any rate, everything I had said still entirly applys, and you ask a very insightfull question to before even getting your operation. I did not even think about that on how it would interfear with clothing. All though, I did ask if I would still be able to play ice hockey, and they said very much so its just up to me and if its realistic. What funny is that I play all the time now, and I dont notice the ostomy bag for one second! Be that as it may, its is all very true that you can be incredibly active when having a ostomy! So I hope that is encouraging advice to you so when you are all healed up, you can be just as active as ever! I prefer the disposable ostomy bag. I like just taking the bag itself off and putting it in the little wast bag. Then just putting a new bag on and off I go! I wish you all the best with your operation, I know I had never felt better after mine. Lots of ostomates out there so you are way not alone. Have a great recovery and feel better soon!,
Best regards,
Andrew

I'm waiting right now for a call to have a phone interview, and after I read your question about having a explosion I almost fell back in my chair laughing. Then my phone would ring and I would not be able to stop laughing. Seriously!, dont loose that sence of humor you have about the ostomy! I have Crohn's Disease and got my colostomy just over two years ago, and I am still trying to learn how to ware jeans, let alone a just a buisness casual outfit for working. So my wife and I are still trying to figure out how to have that bag tucked in and not get blocked.
When I have to tuckmy shirt in and the bag is tottaly empty, I'm very confident and almost dont even notice it. But, like you said, as soon as I start to feel the bag fill up, thats when my anxiety go's way up. Yeah, I could see it easily just bursting open and it would be poop central. I keep a strong sence of humor about my bag as well, but I am still very confused on how to mainly be able to work at a job and not worry about it filling up really fast and then splat! I think what I have learned so far, like the one writer said, is to leave that part of the shirt loose. I was a police officer when I had to retire due to the Crohn's was so out of control, and after several operations.
I have never felt better now that I got the ostomy, but I really want to get back into police work. Due to like you said, I cant ware jeans eaither with my shirt tucked in and waring a reguler belt, let alone a duty belt with all the gear on, another challege I have. My best advice is to go to a United Ostomy Association of America, Inc. www.ostomy.org/ and go to a support group, they are the experts. I know I am looking to finnaly go when they have there next meeting. If you go to there web sight, they will have a listing of support groups and contacts for it near where you live. Keep that sence of humor, I find its a huge help as well, and things will work out for you!
All the best to you!
Andrew

i hope this will help you.when i had my bag i wore jeans or other styles of pants.most of the time i wore overalls but i am a little bit hillbilly. when i went to play golf or other functions where i had to where pants i would take the bottom of the bag and hold it at my belt line. then i would tuck in my shirt and fasten my belt and pull my shirt out a little bit. that way the belt and pants would hold the bag in place. with the shirt pulled out some it would conceal the bag pretty good and everything flowed good .there was one little down side to this the bag folds over a little at the bottom and causes the bag to hold a little less, but you can keep pulling out a little to make more room till your comfortable. hope this helps.
