itching and burning with j pouch reversal

Fri, June 10, 2011 12:37 PM

I had a j pouch reversal and I constantly have burning and itching

internally at the beginning of the anus. Does anyone else have this

problem and what did you do to solve it?

Hi!  Yes!  I experienced these symptoms after my ostomy takedown.  I thought I was going to go insane from the burning and itching.  The itching was so bad I was about to find a new use for bottle brushes!  I tried every over-the-counter topical anesthetic - nothing worked.

After many phone calls to my surgeon and gastro, I was about to give up hope.  My GP is the one who found the remedy for me.  NYSTATIN/TRIAMCINOLONE cream was the answer to my prayers!

It's been a week today that I had my j-pouch reversal and I'm having the itching and burning at my rectum also, hoping it will soon go away, but in the mean time I'm using prep-H to soothe the hemroids? and the softest toilet paper I can find.

Crohn's colitis cost me my gallbladder nearly two years ago and I am still recovering. Lost 40 pounds and became dehydrated and anemic.  Needed a blood transfusion two weeks after the surgery. Then I recovered a little but flunked my colonoscopy.  So...colostomy is set for the end of July.  I'm 66 and have dealt with this for almost 20 years.  In addition to the pain in my colon, I now have severe, painful burning and itching at the end of the tunnel.  Over the counter aids don't help much or for long, but Calmoseptine gives me enough relief to go to work and function.  The surgeon applied it and it does burn a bit, but not for long.  Other recommendations - Maalox applied topically and Domeboro soaks - help very little.  I'm afraid of the surgery but more afraid of the continuing pain.  Good luck - to all of us.  .

I would also recommend Tucks pads for intstant relief. They really did work the best for me but if your skin has gotten raw from the burning and constant stool, there is a instant, initial burn. *ouch. But its not unbearable and its worth the result

Its been 3 years since my surgery and I have the same problem and I have tried everything. I'm going to list everything I tried in hopes that something may work for you. As for me, they worked to a certain point, but I still wanted something to do more. When the burning is really bad, I would put a hot towel on it to calm the burning.

All the drs say that they would recoomend Boudreaux's Butt Paste but I didn't like the texture and it stained.

I was prescriped Nystatin, it didn't do much for me.

A& D ointment - there is a cream/lotion form and ointment, they are the same, just different textures.

Currently I am using plain on Vaseline. Simple yet over all the best result for long term.
