Cincinnati vs. Cleveland Clinic

Sun, September 25, 2011 8:57 PM

Just wondering if there was anyone around who had surgery in the area at either the Cleveland Clinic or University of Cinci. Or even just sees a GI there? My doc recommended I have a total colectomy and while looking at my options I am trying to decide where to go. I am going to meet with both a GI and a surgeon to look at options I guess. Thanks for any feedback.

My son is a patient of Cincinnati Childrens Hospital.  We travel 6 hours to see them.  Andrew was diagnosed in July 2009.  His case was very severe. I made the decision to get a second opinion at Cincinnati Childrens.  After they tried all there was to try, we decided for the surgery.  July 8th, 2010 Andrew had a colectomy/J-Pouch with illestomy.  He had his take down surgery on Oct 28th, 2010.  And he is doing GREAT.  I can provide you with more details if you like, but I did want to let you know that Cincinnati is top notch.  In fact, we are returning to Cincinnati on November 10th for a scar revision.  I will continue to take him there as long as they are willing to see him.  I do not know anything about Cleveland Clinic, other than they were high on the list along with  Cincinnati. Oh course, I am EXTREMELY partial to Cincinnati because of the personal/dedicated/professional care we received.  We live about 100 miles south of Nashville, so Cincinnati is a bit closer.  however, when you are facing a surgery such as this, I would not let distance be an obstacle.  Good luck.
