Surgery for healing ulcers

Wed, May 14, 2008 3:57 PM

I have been dealing with ulcers from Crohn's for 7 years in my anus and now recently found one in my rectum.  Every type of medication has been used and either worked for a little while or did nothing at all.  Today I found out that my insurance company denied me having Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.  There is not much information about the effects on Crohn's patients but maybe a few had seen a difference.  It is a very expensive therapy but my gastro wanted to try non-invasive ways to help me.  WELL..... surgery is the talk.  The doctor has suggested surgery to give me a bag to let my ulcers heal.   Give the rectum and anus time heal.  I don't know anything about what this surgery is called and what are all the details.  I should be hearing back from the gastro doctor to set up an appointment with a colon and rectal Surgeon.

If anyone has had this type of surgery please let me know how yours went and how to explain it to my family.  They are having a bad time dealing with this.
