Hernia after Colon Surgery

Hi,
I had surgery for UC & got a abdominal hernia because if it. My surgeon wants me to get plastic surgery with mesh to fix the hernia. Has anyone had hernia surgery here. If so, how was the recovery after surgery?

I had an abdominal hernia in 2007 it was repaired with mesh. In 2008 I had 2 bowel surgeries. In 2011 I had 3 more bowel surgeries and one for abdominal hernia (in three locations). Again this was repaired with mesh. I started seeing a new GI doctor who informs me that Crohn's patients shouldn't have hernia repairs with mesh. I currently have another rather large abdominal hernia. The GI doctor has asked me not to have surgery to repair it until there is a real problem interfering with the bowel itself. It's been a pretty rough road for me. I wish you all the luck!

I had hernia surgery with mesh around 4 1/2 years after having resection surgery for crohn's. My recovery from the hernia surgery went well. I was sore for a few days but no complications. I was back to work within a couple days.
