Doctor Rec. for San Antonio/Austin Are

Sun, May 19, 2013 10:30 AM

We are moving from Miami to San Antonio and desperately need a pediatric GI for my son.  He was diagnosed with UC at the age of 4 and now it has progressed into Crohn's Colitis.  He is currently going through a flair up so we need to see a doctor as soon as we get to San Antonio.  I have checked the list on my insurance so I have some names but I was wondering if anyone out there could give me some personal references as to a great doctor in either San Antonio or Austin, TX.  The CCFA website unfortunately doesn't list any for these two cities and the ones they list are for cities much too far to travel for check ups.  Any suggestion would help!  Thanks in advance!!

By the way-if the US News Top Doctors site (which I discuss in my initial post below) doesn't yield any suitable results for the San Antonio zip code, then you can just type in the zip code for Austin and see what comes up--or just choose a wider mileage radius for the San Antonio zip code. Either way, you're sure to find someone first-rate in that area. (See my initial post below for details).

The best resource for finding a first-rate doctor anywhere in the USA is to use the US News Top Doctors Web site. Here's the link:  http://health.usnews.com/top-doctors . When you get to that Web site, just type in "gastroenterologist" or "pediatric gastroenterologist" (depending on your son's age) in the specialist window, along with the other requested information (such as your new ZIP code in San Antonio, etc.). You will then get a list of the very best GI docs in that area, as determined by extensive polling of medical professionals. GOOD LUCK! Please let us know if you find someone suitable--it should be no problem if you use that resource.
