Any advice for management of nausea?

Hi, I posted this in a different area of this forum as well but thought it might be sensible to post in the parents' section too. Apologies for doubling up! My daughter (now 9) was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis about 18 months ago. Her symptoms have been quite tricky to get on top of and she spent much of the first 12 months on steroid therapy. She is now in remission but has had ongoing difficulty with nausea on a daily basis. The nausea started at the same time as her first flare and tends to be much more severe when she is having lots of bleeding/diarrhoea but even on a good day it is generally in the background. Her specialist says that there isn't a physical cause for it that he can find and wondered if it were anxiety related however assessment from a Psychologist has found that anxiety is not an issue for her. So basically it looks as though there isn't a medical option to help the nausea go away. My question is have any of you found nausea to be a part of your IBD symptoms, and if so, how do you manage it? At the moment my daughter's medications are 1.5 grams Mesalazine BD, 75 mg Azothyaprine daily, as well as an Iron supplement. She is officially in remission although she consistently has mild bleeding but they think that is just a part of this disease for her. Any advice would be hugely appreciated. Its horrible to see her battle with feeling yucky every single day.

I have colitis and i deal with nausea as well trying to find was to help!
i found that drinking lots of water through out the day helps

Hi ... I am 35 years old and I m suffering from ulcerative colitis since two years. I am much better now bit nausea still bothers me alot... I have tried everything to overcome my nausea but didn't work:(

Hi Robyn. My daughter is 9 as well. She has crohns and suffers from nausea most of all. She takes 1-2 zofran almost daily. It really helps with the nausea and reassures her that she's not going to vomit. I hope this helps.

the iron could cause nausea. There are many things that could help. My son has a nausea pill his pediatrician prescribed, he takes it as needed. There is something she can wear on her wrist that requires a prescription, I think, over the counter generic things for nausea, it might help to take something daily for a while.

My husband has crohn's disease and has been experiencing everyday and night. There are several things you can try for you daughter. Since different people reacts differently, so please don't get frustrated during the process of exploring.

1 Ginger pill ( It helps my husband, but that cause him heartburn as well)
2 Pressure point, please check the link for instruction. (This is what has been helping my husband the most. I will usually do it for him for a short while. Put pressure point for around 30 second, then release and repeat it till your daughter feels better)

3 Energy drinks (I heard that the electrolyte in energy drinks ease nausea as well.)
