Weight gain help following bowel resection

Mon, June 30, 2014 9:25 AM

My husband just had four inches of his intestines removed during a small bowel resection about three weeks ago. This is his second surgery, the first of which he has two feet of intestines and half of his colon removed in 1983. He has always been thin due to the first surgery. But, now he is dangerously underweight. He has lost about twenty pounds in 3 weeks time. We are seeing the surgeon and the GI doctors this month, but unfortunately we have no way of getting answers until the appointments since his Crohn's is considered a military disability and he is being treated through the VA hospital. What are some things I can do to help him gain some of the lost weight back? We are currently using Boost shakes as a supplement twice a day, but I am not seeing any improvement. Has anyone else had a family member go through this? Any ideas and tips would be greatly appreciated.
