Help understanding for my 16 month old

Fri, February 05, 2016 1:51 PM

Hello all.  I just need some opinions.  My 16 month old son underwent a colonoscopy and endoscopy last month for horrible stools with mucus, occult blood, and pain when having a bowel movement.  He has been seeing a GI since he was 5 months old and they thought it was food and milk that was causing the issues.  After moving him to elemental formula, the issues persisted.  The findings after looking were gastritis and inflamed lymph nodes, but the biopsy of the colon came back with colitis and the doctor thought it was significant enought to treat with Apriso (once a day, not 4 since he is only 16 months old).  He said he will be on it for a few months and we will reevaluate.  He didn't, however, say it was ulcerative colitis.  He said it is acute colitis.  Does anyone know what that means?  Thank you.
