new to this. insurance problems

Our 35 yr old daughter has just been diagonosed with a severe case of Chrohns.  GI doctor wants to start with remincade treatments, but health insurer (Harvard Pilgram) is insisting we start with Humeria treatments because of the cost of Remincade.  GI doctor does not believe this will be of benefit and will only postpone the necessary Remincade treatment.

Our daughter has been in constant pain (taking a steriod treatment now) for more than 3 weeks straight while waiting for a correct diagnosis, an appointment, and back and forth between doctor and ins co over the treatment.

I am hoping someone may have had a similar experience and found a way to best advocate for our daughter.

Harvard Pilgrim policy is through employer.  Employer small and no Human Resource dept or anyone who really can offer guidance.   We are in Maine.

Thank you.
