Mother of son with Crohns , need some advice.

Hey guys, new to this site. I have a 9 year old son who was diagnosed with Crohns when he was just 5 years old. the first year was very rough but then he went into remission for about 2 years. Recently he is having a flare up and missing a lot of school. It is effecting him emotionally and mentally, He did not want to join the baseball team this year (after playing for 3 previous years) and he is not very enthusiastic about social interaction. I dont know anyone else who has a child or family member with this condition so i was hoping to talk to some other moms (or dads lol) about every day routines, maybe some diet or exercising suggestions, or just some tips on how we can both get through this. its just him and me , no other children no spouse, so i feel that it is solely up to me to help him find relief. thank you everyone for taking the time out to reply.

Hi there,

we we are having similar situation with our own son. Diagnosed in 2014, and he has missed school since September 2016. He is on Homebound schooling, and he is reacting in a very similar way. I think these kids are feeling bad about feeling bad. I am thinking of hiring a personal trainer, more to help him rebuild his physical self with a supportive person who understands about crohns.
I read that cognitive-behavioral therapy helps too, but my son also does not want to go. One helpful thing is we are trying a movie night next week with a friend and a favorite teacher, whom he has not seen since this started. I am thinking the CCFA camp this summer, too. Increasing supportive community seems key. I empathize that in the meantime it is so hard to see them go through all of this.:( Keep me posted on what works.
