CollegeBoard accommodations

Does anyone know how to get accommodations for the SAT, PSAT, etc. The CollegeBoard refused to accommodate our daughter. She needs stop the clock testing -- the ability to use the bathroom when needed. And food and drink during testing. We also asked for word processor for testing as written in her IEP of over 4 yrs. (re-approved at the three year mark.) What she REALLY needs is not to take the test in the early morning -- that is not a good time for her. anyone had any luck?

I found that our 504 worked so well with the SAT's-- the school counselor will help. The cut off dates are earlier for accommodations-by almost a few weeks- so make sure that you get the dates from the school.
chris'smom--- You are so right. Why is it that 504's work so much better for the SAT than everyday in high school? I am always at the school- contacting teachers, ets. ridiculous! I think i am tired of all this--- i think that I am going to play hard ball this year and will file complaints . You think that will wake them up?

Ahhhhhhhhhhh been there....done that....glad to be able to point you in the right direction. The school has paperwork that you need to fill out a portion then the doc completes their portion prior to the school sending it in. BE sure to check the deadlines.....August ...it can take 4-6 wks to hear back. The College Board/ SSD folks were VERY helpful when I called to check on things. Also a good idea to call ahead to the test site, introduce yourselves, inform them of eligibility status etc. Once eligibility is determined, I believe it's good for a year. Always take a copy to test site as well. Good luck.

Hi,
Her IEP is a legal document and should follow her even after high school. Have you look under Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA)? This may help you understand her rights. I hope it helps.

I agree with the other post and would add that you should get documentation from your child's doctor that these accomodations are necessary. I have found that once I had a doctor's letter the school and guidance counselors were much more recepetive. It is sad to say, but I don't think anyone is going to made accomodations until they are told they have to. Also, have you tried contacting your local CCFA chapter for help? The chapters are listed in the tab on the left. Good luck.

My son's guidence counselor set up all of his needs ex: water, breaks, food, etc....for him. In fact she called me the other day and asked me if there was anything else she needed to tell them. He has a Section 504 in place and I am having difficulties with his high school with that, but as far as him taking his SATs there was no problem. If you have a 504 coordinator with her school (which we don't have) they are the people who you should get in contact with, and if you don't, (like us) contact her guidence councelor. A little advice....squeaky wheel get the oil!! Sad, but true.
