I am new to all this. I was referred to this site from my sons Dr.My son is 20 years old. I hear their is no cure, My son has lost a lot of weight. He once weighed 165 lbs. Now at 145 .Thank God.The penisone has helped him gain 25 back. It is hard as a mother to watch him every morning run to the restroom.Soon he will start the induction to infusions. Scary. He hates needles he says. This will be his life. As a mother my job is to teach him to be proactive. I will be there to support him.

Thank you for your feed back.I did'nt take my son's respect and dignity into account. Without me knowing he walked in on this post.He was upset. This is a personal thing. Which is his. I now know though he tells me everything. This is one touching subject. I must respect him because I love him. One day at a time. I will handle. I won't post any more, but maybe he will go to a support group. If not you are right it his to own. He will have this for his journey in his life.Thank you for wisdom on this important matter.Which made me wake up.

As a mom of a 15 year old son with severe UC, I understand what your going through.  My son also went through the remicade infusion treatment.  But in his case it did not control his symptoms.  He is now facing surgery.  I hope these infusion treatments works for your son and that he needs to understand that this is going to be the new normal.  Just like my son things won't ever be the same. His prognosis looks great but he knows his body won't ever function before he was diagonosed 7 months ago.  Good luck with your son .  Derel's mom

UC is an embarrassing disease.  Especially when you're diagnosed as a young adult.  I was 17 when I was diagnosed and it was hard for me because I wanted so badly to be independent but I just couldn't.  My mom was supportive but I felt like she didn't understand and she would worry so much so I would downplay my symptoms and say that I was feeling alright when I really wasn't.  I have no idea if that's what your son is going through, but be aware that it could be.  It would be really good to go to support group meeting in your area.  If he's into it let ask him if he wants to go on his own or with you and be respectful of his wishes (it may be too embarrassing to discuss it all with you there).  If he's not into it, you should go for yourself and talk to others who have been through it before.  Infusions and other meds can be scary at first but it's something y'all will have to get used to and it will become normal later.  That is something that is very hard to accept, but it's easier when you can talk to other people who have already accepted it.
