Food poisoning

Wed, July 28, 2010 10:06 AM

Does anyone have any experience with food poisoning?  My daughter has Crohn's and got sick from some bad grilled chicken at a restaurant.  She had a terrible night -- vomiting and diarrhea but it is OK now.  I am concerned though that this might send her into a flare up.  I called her Pediatric GI doctor, they don't seem to be too concerned.  If anyone has an experience to share I would appreciate it.

For me (7 yr old with Crohn's), it is hard not to worry about a everything either starting or actually being a flare.  My daughter got a weird virus earlier in the year, 1 day vomiting, 1 day diarrhea, 2 days fever and a couple of mouth sores.  By the time the mouth sores showed up, I was in a wide-spread panic and called her GI doc.  After 24 more hours, she was totally fine and she did not end up with a flare.  Looking back, it was all viral but while you are in it (or had the scary food poisoning experience), you just can't help but worry about it leading to something else.

I hope your daughter does just fine and recovers from the bad chicken without incident!!!  Like another Crohn's Mom told me once, "They can't just be sick.  It's too complicated."  I could sooooo relate to that statement.

Hang in there!
