colonoscopy shows remission but my son is still having diarrhea

Sun, August 15, 2010 9:44 AM

Hello,

I have a 5 year old with UC.  He is currently on Colazal and Imuran.  He has been having Diarrhea for the last month, coincidently it started just around the time his Prednisone would have been out of his system. He had a Colonoscopy and an Endoscopy last week and his doc is saying that everything looked good.....so why is he still having diarrhea then???? Have any of you experienced this??? His Imuran levels were low and they are being re-checked so his dosage may need to be adjusted, he is currently on 50mg per day. Kind of personal but do any of you have children that are in "remission" but still continue to have diarrhea??? I just dont know if this is just going to be how it is going to be for him and it is really frustrating.

Thanks,
Sandy

I would contact his gi w/this one.  I'm thinking his current meds may need adjusting, only because of the timing of the pred wean and now diarrhea situation (probably not a coincidence).  It would be good to catch something before it gets harder to tame.   It's important, especially during the summer, to keep hydrated.   The diarrhea just takes so much fluid from them, lots of fluid and "safe" snacks.

Good Luck

I meant to add that my son has been on prednisone for 9mths and Flagyl 6mths. He has never been on any of the "big guns" Thank God. If  it up to me he will never take anything that strong as long he is as young as he his. He down to taking his meds 1x daily. Our goal is to start weaning him off of all meds for good! God Bless us! He's back to eating, not everything  because he's 2yr old and in their world it's their way no way forget trying any thing new!

Hi:

My son is 2yr old and his in "remission" whatever that means! I say that because like you my son bowl aren't always form there is always the present of mucous diarreah. It's kinda weird to celebrate a form stool, but only us parent who share this ill fate would understand.
