I have crohns and now they think my daughter has it

Wed, January 11, 2012 6:55 PM

I was diagnosed with crohns when I was 21 (I am now 41) and recently I was told by a immune specialist that my daughter might have it.  We had blood work today and the doctor is trying to get her into a Pediatric GI over in Pensacola.  He didn't even know that I was diagnose with it when he suggested that her symptoms sounded like crohns.  Eerie hearing that possibility.

That is how I am looking at it.  If she does have IBD I can at least relate and help her through some of this.  I have to say she is a lot braver than I was at 21.  All she can think of is getting better and getting back to swimming competitive.

It happened in our home (in reverse).    My daughter was diagnosed at age 4 and we had never even heard of CD before.    Sure enough five years later, I had gotten terribly sick and was diagnosed too!    In hindsight, I had many, many symptoms growing up, but the docs back then simply treated the symptom.

My husband and son both have Crohn's and while I wish the doctor could have told us my son did not have it when he was diagnosed 2 years ago we at least knew what we were dealing with and he has someone really close that understands just how he is feeling when he is complaining of symptoms or not feeling well.
Just finished a doctor's appt with my younger son who has been complaining of stomach aches several times a month and was terrified that he was also going to have crohn's even though he was not showing any other symptoms.  Luckily all the blood test came back as normal and we are trying some acid blockers to see if that could be the cause of him tummy pains.
