Chronic Pain

Tue, May 01, 2012 6:32 PM

My son is 18 and was diagnosed with Crohn's a year ago.  He has been on Remicade since.  Since December he has had disabling abdominal pain despite his inflammatory markers being negative.  They started him on Amytriptyline, Lyrica, and Ultram.  It helps the pain minimally, and he is sleeping mostly, complaining of pain and nausea, and missing school.  I am panicked that he will not graduate due to numerous days missed.  I don't know how he will be able to go off to College in the fall.  They offered him a 3 week pain clinic program but he refuses to consider it.  I just don't know what else to do............Anyone have any ideas???

What about counseling?  A good counselor may be able to provide some practical relaxation techniques, deep breathing and stress managment tools that could benefit.
