remicade and prednisone

Mon, June 25, 2012 11:48 AM

I am taking remicade and a low dose of prednisone and mercaptopurine and I have not gone into remission.  Is there anything I can take with remicade to put me into remission.  I am 18 and would like to get a part time job but feel I am not up for it.  I have no pain and have not had any surgery. Does probiotic supplements help? I watch what I eat and exercise. I just need something to get me thru the day without spending to much time in the bathroom. Your help is appreciated.

I'm 17 and my last flare up was 3 months long and felt like I was constantly in and out of the bathroom.. at some point I was hospitalized for 2 weeks and on high dosages of prednisone and then also put onto a lower dosage of Remicade. The doctor wheened me off of prednisone in a  duration of a couple of months, I am now just on remicade and I don't have flare ups like before. I have to watch what I eat like I don't eat a lot of milk products because that brings the issues back for a day or two but other than that this medication has truly been a god send and has changed my life completely compared to when i wasn't on it.

I was on  all the meds you list., with mixed results.  Finally, Fecal Transplant therapy put me into complete remission/cured?.  Check out my post in the Treatments section of the Forum, under Fecal Transplants. I suffered from this disease for 35 yrs.  My hope is that you find that FT cures you so that you do not have to suffer as long as i did.

Good Luck,

Tucker

I would recommend mentioning to your doctor about adding imuran into the mix. This will hopefully make it possible for you to wean off the steroids. Look up the SONIC trial and you can read about the science behind this approach. Hoping this will help!smiley
