Pregnancy and Crohn's Disease

Sun, June 15, 2014 3:30 PM

Hello,

I was wondering how I go about finding an OBGYN that may have experience with Crohn's disease or at least the medications that I am currently taking.

I have tried asking my GI and he said he didn't know of any doctor in particular.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

I have had Crohns since I just got married...19 years ago.  I have 2 children.  I saw a high risk specialist with my first, though I'm not sure it was necessary.  One piece of advice is to make sure your Crohns is in remission before you get pregnant.  If you can manage that, you will be fine.  Somehow, the hormones your body gives off during pregnancy keep it at bay.  I was great while I was pregnant and the whole time I breast fed with both pregnancies.

Good luck!

I'm just starting to talk to my doctor about this, as we would like to have children in the next year or so.

My doctor said he works closely with a specific OB/GYN for his patients wanting to get pregnant or are pregnant. He mentioned it's a good idea to work with an OB/GYN who works with high-risk pregnancies (which you are with Crohn's he said).

Where do you live? I may be able to point you to someone. I'm in Minnesota.

Hi. I don't have any experience with this either. I just joined this group looking for women who are pregnant with Crohn's. I just recently found out I'm pregnant. I don't take any medication and I have had a colectomy. I feel great! Just tired. How about you? How far along are you? And did you find an OBGYN?
