Has anyone dealt with having really bad flare-ups during there time of the month? Wondering what I can do to combat the terrible pain?? And what others have tried that works for them ?
Thank you !:)

I have always gotten really bad flare ups before and during my period. My Doctor wants me to try an IUD to see if it will help level out my hormones and possibly get rid of the monthly flares that I have been having. For now I am going to start taking a birth control pill before trying the IUD to see if it helps at all.

Hello,
Oh my gosh yes!!! I have crohn's disease and I call my symptoms during my period a "mini-flare" It has to do with the hormones, apparently even women without crohn's or UC have issues during their periods. I have requested in the past pain medication since we can't take NSAIDs and tylenol doesn't do much!!! I try not to ask to frequently though since so many people abuse pain meds so doctors are on high alert in Virginia for that. I also take hot baths and use a heating pad. I work full time so I just try to wear looser pants, my boss actually approved black yoga pants since she knows my issues, and take tylenol during the day. I try to eat really bland too. I tried that one birth control one time where you only get your period 4 times a year but it made me throw up every morning...fun stuff lol. I have had crohn's for 14 years now and I'm 31 so I've been dealing with this issue a lot lol. At this point I just kind of expect it and do what I mentioned above. Thank God I don't have my period for a week at a time lol. I hope this helps!

I have the same issue with my Cronhs! Feels like every time. It's double of all the regular problems plus your cranky so it's kind of just an evil thing to happen all together!
I watch what I eat and go to a BRAT diet just because I'll be in the bathroom 100x in a day. I'm desperate to make it stop. Something my mom who has UC told me is to take an Benadryl and it supposedly soaks up liquids and reroutes them and that seems to ease my problems a little bit. It would be advisable to ask your doctor first. I take allergy pills often so it's not a big deal for me. Benadryl is the only one that works for me though. Not sure if there is actual science to back it up but it makes me feel better be it mental or physical.
When my UC was active, I noticed that I had severe cramping. I'm in remission now and feel much better.

I wasn't in a flare up but I've noticed since my diagnosis that when I'm on my cycle I'm sick and tired a lot more.
